Extraordinary skills in an extraordinary environment.
Fast-evolving and unique, the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) shapes the future of regulation in the UK nuclear industry. As our Export Control Manager, you’ll protect ONR’s reputation in this area and offer advice, support and encouragement across the entire organisation. It’s a crucial role where you’ll have an incredibly important impact on our future.
Your main focus will be to help us navigate the export control regime, manage our licenses and ensure all protocols and guidance are up to date. As part of this, you’ll work with a range of people from all areas of our business. You’ll help everyone to understand the controls around our information and you’ll confidently handle challenging conversations. Plus, you’ll manage relevant systems and governance around UK export controls.
You’ll be keen to make an immediate impact, but you’ll also have an eye on the future. It means you’ll manage and negotiate current license requirements, while considering future requirements and mitigating risks. With your impressive expertise and excellent leadership skills, you’ll also act as our point of contact for the Department of Business Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and the Export Control Joint Unit (ECJU).
We’ll expect you to have a detailed understanding of UK export control legislation and its application. This’ll be backed up by your experience with the SPIRE system, and ideally your knowledge of the nuclear industry as well as previous liaison with the Export Control Joint Unit. Ideally, you’ll also have an understanding of the key issues within the nuclear industry and relevant regulatory bodies.
A strong and credible communicator, you’ll confidently foster great working relationships with our teams and external partners. An approachable individual, you’ll also be experienced at bringing stakeholders along on a journey, managing their expectations and briefing senior leaders. And as a real people-person, you’ll be keen to support people with their professional development and pass on your expertise.
As part of the ONR, you’ll enjoy a generous rewards package and opportunities to progress. In addition to a possible relocation package, we offer a competitive salary of £53,012 - £61,307. You’ll also be eligible for a Civil Service Pension with five weeks’ annual leave, rising by an extra day for every year worked (up to a maximum of six weeks).
