Mechanisms Laboratory Technician
The Mechanisms team within AWE are looking for innovative, creative, and highly motivated Mechanical Laboratory Technicians. The successful applicant will join the team responsible for the design, manufacture, assembly and testing of robust miniature weapon safety and environmental sensing Mechanisms. The role will support current and future programs of work at AWE. This is an excellent opportunity to be involved in some exciting work here at AWE!
Location - Reading area
Package - £26,500 - £37,000 (subject to skills and experience)

The successful candidate will be driven and passionate about pushing the boundaries of Mechanical design and product realisation, through the application of numerous forefront engineering technologies.
Responsibilities of the role include:
Performing assembly work, testing, validating and approving the Mechanisms component builds within the teams inhouse laboratory facilities
Using various types of Laboratory equipment and plant to support the teams deliverables
Training and mentorship of others in the use of Laboratory equipment
Running and maintaining of the teams Additive Manufacturing equipment
Providing technical input and contributions during design team meetings
Ensuring laboratory equipment is readily available for use, equipment utilisation and deconfliction
Organising and/or supporting plant and equipment maintenance schedules
To be considered for the role, candidates must have the following:
Either an ONC, HNC or HND within an Engineering field
Experience in Engineering manufacturing techniques including Additive Manufacturing
Excellent interpersonal skills, an ability to work independently but also within a team and willingness to support colleagues to achieve the teams goals
Whilst not considered a checklist, candidates would also benefit from having the following experience:
Working within a Laboratory environment is desired but not essential
Materials, such as stainless steels, ferrites, ceramics and noble metals
Joining techniques, such as welding, bonding, crimping
Design of tooling, jigs and fixtures
Product testing and validation
This role will require the wearing of PPE. Candidates must be willing to work in designated areas.
Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role. The successful candidates must be willing to travel within the UK and overseas as required, which may entail short stays away from home.
