The purpose of the role is to develop and maintain expertise on assigned plant system(s) and/or area(s) and use this knowledge to ensure the overall performance, safety, condition and associated documentation of these assigned systems are maintained at a high standard.

Specific activities and deliverables associated with the role include:

  • Evaluate system performance
  • Perform reviews of temporary modifications and conduct safety evaluations and operability determinations as required to support system activities and operation.
  • Assist in the investigation of reportable occurrences or operating events and in the preparation of associated reports and root cause determinations.
  • Accumulate, review, and initiate action, as appropriate, on operational experience information from condition reports and trending from ATLAS and information received from industry wide best practice information received through process owners and capability leads.
  • Support maintenance activities by maintaining the technical basis for maintenance and assist in work package preparation and determination of post-maintenance test requirements. Assist with planning for complex maintenance activities based on insight and system experience.
  • Provide support to Maintenance as requested to resolve system related issues when Maintenance has been unsuccessful in resolving the issue.
  • Prepare system design descriptions where required and provide input to training lesson plans. (Act as SME for their system for input to training material.)
  • Support system outage work. This includes providing input to planning and scheduling for the outage and assisting in the determination that assigned system/area(s) are ready for start-up.
  • Be aware of and support resolution of new or revised regulatory requirements.
  • Recommend to plant management the appropriate priority for work affecting assigned systems and ensure this priority is understood.
  • Monitor activities on system components to identify those that contribute to system unavailability and make recommendations for improvements. (e.g. availability of critical spare parts)
  • Monitor system unavailability against plant goals, industry norms, and performance assumed in plant safety analyses. Pursue corrective action where appropriate.
  • Support the asset management program
  • Support risk assessment process for engineering activities.
  • Understand customer quality requirements. Identify and take action to correct where system performance does not support these requirements.

  • HNC/ HND/ Scientific or Engineering Degree
  • Strong experience within EC&I within a highly regulated industry
