Job Description

AWE is currently recruiting for a Senior Computational Scientist to be accountable for the design, development and support of scientific software exploiting AWE's High-Performance Computing (HPC) platforms. You will be required to provide technical leadership in the numerical solution of multi-physics problems, including direct support to users and performing research to develop and implement new algorithms suited to future HPC architectures.

Location - Reading area

Package - £41,950 - £55,000 (depending on your suitability and level of experience)

What will you be responsible for?

  • Research, investigation and implementation of techniques and solutions to multi-physics problems

  • Provide appropriate assistance to colleagues to resolve technical problems/queries

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain existing and new major software packages

  • Actively participate in collaboration activities with external peers on leading-edge research (International Peers/Industry/Academia)

  • Foster high quality by providing review of work

What will you need to be considered?

We would love to hear from individuals with a Degree in computer science/physics/maths or an equivalent STEM-based discipline, with the ability to work well in a team and provide technical leadership in projects. A post-graduate qualification is desirable. We require candidates to have experience in the following:

  • Testing frameworks

  • Developing on Linux/Unix platforms

  • Developing codes in C++ and Python

  • Agile methodologies

  • Developing software for CPU and GPU

Along with this, someone with experience and knowledge in the following would be highly desirable:

  • Version control software

  • CI/CD desirable

  • Cross-platform development

  • Fortran would be advantageous

  • Relational databases and big data handling

  • Web development (HTML5, JavaScript, CSS3)

Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role.
