The role
As a Senior Maintenance Support Engineer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. Supporting the nuclear submarine program you will play a crucial role within the team to support the day to day delivery of the maintenance, upgrade and repairs to the facilities

Day-to-day, you'll ensure the safe and efficient delivery of maintenance, upgrade and repair activities through the nuclear facilities maintenance planning cycle.

The Senior Maintenance Support Engineer (SMSE) will provide day-to-day line management, guidance, and support to the Maintenance Support Engineers (MSE's). Managing and coordinating all activities, ensuring they achieve the deliverables and expectations of their role, including hosting regular 1-to-1 meetings, wellbeing checks and performance review meetings.

  • Identifying and delivering the requirements of work packages to enable the delivery of forthcoming maintenance activities on nuclear assets and facilities.
  • Using and developing the maintenance look-ahead (four to sixteen weeks) and the maintenance readiness and implementation / requirements tracking process, to ensure that all the needed methods, materials and equipment are in place, before the maintenance period starts.
  • Overseeing the development of the Plan Of The Week (PLOW) and deliver work packages to the maintenance delivery teams, working with them to develop future maintenance packages.
  • Leading the Maintenance Support Engineers in their day-to-day activities.
  • Assisting Maintenance Support Engineers and maintenance delivery teams with problem solving and the provision of emergent requirements throughout the maintenance period.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

Essential experience of the Senior Maintenance Support Engineer

  • Relevant experience within the engineering industry
  • Operations and Maintenance / Nuclear environment is desirable
  • Knowledge and understanding of dockside Services and facilities
  • Proficient in the application of project management tools and how they are utilised throughout the Project Lifecycle
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications; Outlook, Word, Excel and Visio.

Qualifications for the Senior Maintenance Support Engineer

  • Minimum Level 3 in an engineering field or equivalent technical experience (evidence to be provided)
  • APM Project Fundamentals - Desirable.
  • Submarine Quality Assurance Course - Desirable.
  • Nuclear Foundation - Module 1 and 2 - Desirable.
  • Health and Safety Management of Sub-Contractors - Desirable.
  • IOSH Managing Safely - Desirable.

Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
